Why is this study being done?
We are Girlx Lab, a Black woman-led research group at the University of California San Francisco. We are developing new ways to improve the health and well-being of Black adolescent girls of all gender identities. Our research team wants to understand what positive sexuality and sexual health look like among Black adolescent girls. Our goal is to adjust an existing survey on positive sexuality and tailor it to the lived experiences of Black girls. If you choose to participate, you will take part in a focus group of 6-8 Black adolescent girls where you will review an existing survey for adolescence and define what positive sexuality means to you and your peers.
What can I expect if I participate in this study?
- Today you will answer a few questions to find out if you are eligible to participate in this study
- If you are eligible, you will be provided more information about the study and will be asked to participate in a phone screen
- You will take a short eligibility survey today and then participate in either a virtual or in person focus group to discuss your sexual health and sexuality experiences as a Black adolescent girl. You will be able to skip any question in the focus groups that you do not want to answer. You can also use an alias name during the focus group
- You may have the opportunity to participate in a follow up focus group to review themes from the initial focus group
Will I be paid for participating?
Yes, you will be compensated for your time.
